Cathryn was a first generation college student who began her higher education at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, California. She was a member of the Center for Science Excellence and remained on the honor roll and dean’s list during her time there. She completed her bachelor of science degree at Cal State East Bay in Hayward, California, graduating summa cum laude, with a major in therapeutic re-creation and a minor in psychology. She received an Outstanding Student award from the Department of Recreation, and was the recipient of several competitive academic scholarships including the Helen J. Cushman Memorial Scholarship and the Sally Casanova Pre-doctoral Scholarship. Her graduate studies took place at Argosy and Brandman universities, where she majored in counseling psychology, the study of the mind and how we think.
Cathryn has worked as a: Re-creation Therapy Supervisor for Sutter Health, Re-creation Therapist for Eden Medical Center, Re-creation Therapist for Herrick Hospital, Re-creation Therapist for The Veterans Administration, and, a Visual Perception Research Assistant for Cal State East Bay.

Cathryn’s most important education came from the school of hard knocks: her life experiences. Particularly, the mistakes she made and the lessons she learned that helped her not make those mistakes again.
